Flashing The Hardware

The Campbell Men’s Golf team dominated the field at the ODU/OBX Collegiate Championships, defeating the runner-up in the tournament, Bowling Green, by an impressive 13 strokes.

Junior Craig Hornberger was the story of the tournament, setting the program’s 54-hole mark (201) shooting 12-under par overall while posting his first individual collegiate win.

In fact Campbell posted the top two scores in the tournament as fellow junior Gaston Bertinotti posted a score of 208, including an impressive 66 (-5) during the opening round of action.

The Fighting Camels compete next at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. on Feb. 1-2 for the Sea Best Invitational. Make sure to follow @GoCamelsMGolf for updates on the squad teeing it up from Keith Hills Country Club heading into the 2016 campaign.

Fighting Camel Classic

Fans of the NCAA-ranked Fighting Camels squad finished day one of the Fighting Camel Classic, currently tied for first place in the three-day tournament at the Keith Hills Country Club in Buies Creek, N.C.

Led by three players shooting inside the top-8 overall rankings in the tournament, the No. 45-ranked Lady Camels are primed for an excellent run in their first home action of the 2015-16 season.

Juniors Nadine White and Louise Latorre along with sophomore Ayelen Irizar shot +2 over for the round, two shots off the overall lead through Sunday’s slate. All 15 schools in the tournament return to action Monday morning at 9 a.m. for double tee action.

Labor Day Golfing

Members of men’s and women’s golf programs are taking place in the Golfweek Program Challenge, an 18-team tournament combining scores over a three-day tournament concluding Tuesday.

After one day of action, the Fighting Camels’ men’s program has moved into the top five after a solid round on Sunday afternoon. Meanwhile the defending NCAA Tournament women’s squad, ranked 45th overall in the country in the recent rankings, sits right in the top five of the overall standings as well entering Labor Day.

Campbell Golf Alum Earns Second Place

Campbell alum Brad Fritsch, a native of Manotick, Ontario and resident of nearby Holly Springs, N.C., finished in second place (-16, 268), four shots off the leader in the News Sentinel Open in Knoxville, TN. Part of the Web.com Tour, the Fighting Camel shot an impressive 64 on Saturday, scoring under par in all four rounds.

Fritsch graduated from Campbell University back in 2000 with a degree in Criminal Justice Administration. The two-time Academic All-American at Campbell (1999, 2000), earning his PGA Tour Card during the 2013 year. After gathering his third career second-place finish on the Web.com Tour, moving up to 35th overall on the Money Ranks, Fritsch put his performance into perspective.
