Gaston In Control

Junior Gaston Bertinotti holds a one-shot lead in the Latin America Amateur Championship entering Sunday’s final round of action following a 3-under 69 on Saturday at Teeth of the Dog Golf Course in La Romana, Dominican Republic.

What makes this tournament even more interesting is that Sunday’s tournament winner receives an automatic berth in the Masters Tournament in April along with an official berth in the final round of qualifying for the British Open and U.S. Open.

The 20-year-old Cordoba, Argentina native ranks 234th in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, leaving him one round away from playing in the 2016 Masters. Bettinotti was also off to a great start in Buies Creek, leading Campbell to the Old Dominion / OBX Challenge shooting 5-under overall over the three-round tournament.

“Really, I don’t want to think about the Masters right now, because it’s 18 holes, a lot of players, and I’m just one shot ahead of the other one,” Bertinotti said in a news release after his round. “So like I say, shot by shot, hole by hole, that’s what I think. In 18 holes, a lot of stuff can happen.”

The fourth and final round of the Latin America Amateur Championships are underway and fans can track the tournament action here. Gaston will be paired in the final grouping that is set to tee off at 9:28 p.m. EST in hopes of an incredible tournament crown.
