The Campbell men’s basketball team opened conference play on Saturday against Coastal Carolina, becoming the first matchup of conference foes in the entire NCAA Division-1 landscape.
“We think they (Coastal Carolina) will be one of the best teams in league this season, and we feel like we’re gonna be right up there with them,” said head coach Kevin McGeehan.
Following the upset win, 79-73, over the two-time defending champions, the Fighting Camels rest alone in first place led by a strong double double (17 points, 14 rebounds) from senior D.J. Mason.

Junior guard Kyre’ Hamer provided the clutch points late in the game, shooting 10-11 from the free throw line, while Chris Clemons notched his fifth-straight game scoring in double figures (16).
