College basketball has arrived!
The Campbell men’s and women’s basketball programs prepare to start the 2015-16 season tonight at Gore Arena as the Fighting Camels will host a doubleheader starting with WBB at 5:30 p.m.
Campbell is led by senior D.J. Mason, a pre-season 2nd-team all-conference choice. He ranked among Big South leaders last year in scoring (20th, 11.2), rebounding (16th, 5.2) and blocks (10th, 0.94).
Sophomore Curtis Phillips was named to the 2014-15 Big South all-freshman team after ranking 2nd among the league’s frosh scorers (8.6). Guards Kyre’ Hamer (8.3) and Troy Harper (6.7) are also back for CU, which returns four of its top six scorers from last season entering the third season under head coach Kevin McGeehan.

On the women’s basketball side of things, the Lady Camels are 28-15 all-time in their season openers including a 20-6 record here in Buies Creek. Campbell opens the season tonight against UNC Pembroke, continuing a rather extensive series, currently holding a 16-14 lead, although their last meeting was back in 1986.
Campbell returns nine letter winners and three starters from last year’s squad. Led by preseason All-Big South second team selection RaeChaun Edwards and the leading scorer from last season, Amanda Coffer (10.6), the Lady Camels hope to build on a 5th-place preseason ranking under 35th year head coach Wanda Watkins.
