Junior tailback De’Shawn Jones stands alone in FCS Football through the first two weeks of the regular season as the nation’s leading rusher with 286 yards on the ground.
Starting with his outstanding breakout performance against Pikeville, Jones rushed for a school-record 189 yards including one 60-yard score in the Fighting Camels’ 41-20 win.
Jones followed up that performance with another impressive night, recording 108 total yards (97 on the ground) on 21 carries in Saturday’s 35-3 victory, earning CU’s first 2-0 start in modern program history along with a rare spot at the top of the leaderboard.

Jones is making huge strides under coach Mariani’s offense earning over half his rushing total from the entire 2014 campaign (395 yards) for the Fighting Camels, who are now third in the country in total first downs. Keep in mind that Jones finished 2013 with 517 yards on the ground, ranking 10th in CU single season history.
The Greensboro, N.C. native has been explosive with the football, averaging 7.9 yards per attempt along with 11 yards per catch.
The Fighting Camels hope that explosive rushing attack can travel as Campbell faces Presbyterian this Saturday night at 7 p.m. entering their first road contest of the regular season.
