Nearing the much-anticipated start of the 2015 season, men’s soccer head coach Dustin Fonder, formerly of High Point University, dives into what he expects from the Fighting Camels this season.
Picked to finish sixth in the Big South Preseason Coaches Poll, the Camels enter the year with some exciting games; all starting with Friday night’s season opener at Davidson starting at 7 p.m.
“I think our guys should look at this schedule and know that they have a chance to get a marquee win. We’ve just got to go out and put it all together. We have two storied programs that have won national championships coming to Eakes, but I don’t think our guys should fear those moments. They should embrace them and say it’s an opportunity to play against a team that they will be able to talk about for the rest of their lives.”

Fonder led the High Point Panthers to a 78-63-18 record in eight seasons, including an undefeated regular season conference championship in 2010, along with two Big South Coach of the Year awards during his tenure. Fonder, along with his staff of assistant coaches, Ed Joyce and Michael Pereira, are excited about what this young Fighting Camels team can bring to the table this season.
The coaching staff has really preached the importance of overall fitness, being able to outlast your opponent on the pitch, and that will hopefully be on full display for the CU home opener coming up on Friday, September 18th against Jacksonville.
